Mahinda-Modi meeting scheduled in February!


Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to travel to India for a meeting with Indian Premier Narendra Modi, it is reported.

This is the third visit of senior members of the current regime.

According to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office, the visit to India by the Prime Minister is scheduled to take place in early February, but the dates have not been confirmed yet.

India has shown great interest in maintaining close relations with President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, provide financial aid for the development of the country and have placed special interest in Tamil areas in the North, East and the estate sector.

Upon being appointed as the President, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s first overseas visit was to India. There he held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Last week Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena visited India and held discussions with the Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jayashankar.

The Indian Prime Minister had highlighted the importance of implementing the 13th Amendment during talks with President Rajapaksa during his visit.
